Live Review: Absurd aka Anthropophagus II (1981)

For anybody interested, ABSURD is hard movie to find, but the complete and uncut version can be found at Cinema de Bizarre--they're a pretty cool site--I highly recommend them. You can find my written review for the first ANTHROPOPHAGUS HERE.

  1. Hey Rev, Great Review and spot on as always. As you know I also picked this up from CdB a couple weeks back, and enjoyed it as well. The gore more than makes up for the absurd plot. but the score did need some changes. I think this is one of your best live reviews yet! Keep it up!

  2. Rev., it's funny when D'Amato and Eastman don't use their familiar names in the credits when "D'Amato" and "Eastman" aren't even their real names. But that's just part of the absurdity that seems to surround this film. I haven't seen Anthropophagous, but I have seen such D'Amato efforts as Emanuelle in America (cool), Emanuelle & the Last Cannibals (also cool) Death Smiles On A Murderer (gothic cool) and Tough To Kill (mostly lame). Am I prepared for Absurd?

  4. Bugg - Thanx, man. That means a lot coming from you.

Samuel - Hmmm, hard to say. D'Amato is kind of all over the place w/his movies. To be honest--ABSURD didn't really feel like a D'Amato film. It kind of reminded me of Mattei at his best or Fulci at his worst, but not a lot of D'Amato in there. Tough call.

Metalhead - It's really for gorehounds only-if you're into such things, I recommend it, if not, I'd say don't bother.

  5. Hey Rev. I really enjoyed this review. You did a good job with it. I've never seen this film. I've seen some other D'Amato films, but those were generally the Emanuelle movies with Laura Gemser. This movie does look rather absurd, but the gore factor looks really cool. I'll have to see if I can check it out. Cheers!

  7. Great review, Rev. I love this film, too.

I never cease to admire D'Amato for the way he lived his life.

    He was an honest sleazemeister.

I like your live video format.

I'm looking forward to an 'Island of Death' vid review one day.
