Bravo! You are getting really good at these. The fenech tribute could have been longer though , we love her.
The film itself- I adore and while I get the Rosemary Baby thing I felt it has a bit of the Wheatley about it- To The Devil A Daughter and The Devil Rides Out but that is probably because of the rural England locations. I m glad you do these mate because sometimes I look at my dvds and I cant decide what to watch, sometimes I simply forget what a gem some films are- so femina ridens gets tons of airplay while poor old all the colours of the dark never seems to make it to the top of the rewatch pile.
I think you have been very fair about this film as I doubt this would be the film that would win many converts to eurocinema or giallo- there are far better dropping in points but this is a solid piece of work from martino.
Thanx, Nigel. I appreciate the kind words. All I hope to do w/my reviews is shine a light on some forgotten gems and/or films that I dig--even if they're crap. lol
I had to do a lot of editing on this one to get it to fit YouTube's 10 minute rule--I'm thinking of making a longer Fenech tribute just for the hell of it.
I also think that in general, Italian women are beautiful. I don't know if you've heard of Lacuna Coil but they are an Italian band with a female vocalist. Her name is Cristina Scabbia and I've had the chance to meet her. She's hot too!!! Here's a link to a tribute vid of her.
I've also seen them live several times before they were popular and got to hang out with them before or after gigs. One time, I arrived at the venue several hours before the doors even opened and I was able to drink and shoot pool with the band for a couple hours. They signed all of my cds I brought and I took several pics too.
They're nice people but it's difficult to understand them when they talk because of their accent. They told me they liked the U.S. This was back when hardly no one knew who they were. Now, they tour here alot.
Hey Rev. Wow! I really loved this review. I'm a big fan of Edwige Fenech. When I saw I'm a big fan, it means I worship this goddess. :-) She's incredibly beautiful and sexy. I could just look at her for hours on end. She doesn't even have to say anything. She's so amazing looking. I think she's still gorgeous today. I enjoyed this film. It's not my favorite film of hers or by Martino, but it's still a really good one. It does everything so well. I highly recommend it to anyone. Your review makes me wanna watch it again. Great job on this one. Hope you're having a wonderful week. Cheers!
Metalhead - I have heard of Lacuna Coil and yeah, their singer is pretty damn fine.
Keith - It's my favorite Fenech film for one reason--she's in so much of it! Take away her and the film is just so-so. There are a lot of beautiful women in this world, but Fenech gets the ol' blood a flowin' if you know what I mean and your're right--she is still hot!
Rev., this is one of those titles that I would always see at Kim's Video in the city and think about before buying something else. Dammit! But I must agree with you on Edwige Fenech, who definitely enhanced both Case of the Bloody Iris and Five Dolls For An August Moon for me.
But the one thing you neglected to mention in your review of All the Colors of the Dark was who played Mario Bava. Isn't that the most important part???

Thanks for the review Rev. I've always wanted to see this flick but I've haven't yet.
ReplyDeleteOh yea, that tribute to Edwige Fenech is great. She's beautiful!

First Edwige Fenech is the most important part--but "who played Mario Bava"?...I'm not sure I know what you mean. Clue me in! lol
ReplyDeleteI now have a copy of this. I bought it from Borders. I plan on watching it sometime this weekend.
